On August 16, 2003, at about 4 a.m., a wildfire was started by a lightning strike near Rattlesnake Island in Okanagan Mountain Provincial Park in British Columbia, Canada. The wildfire was fuelled by a constant wind and one of the driest summers in the past decade.

The Richter Creek Wildfire (K50271) has been burning in the South Similkameen Valley of British Columbia Canada for over a day. This is a look at the blaze from Highway 3 about 2-kilometres East of the turnoff to the Nighthawk Border Crossing. At the time, BCWS stated the fire was 250 HA in size.
